W&L Women’s Basketball Downs Lynchburg 62-60

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) drilled a three-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining to push the Washington and Lee women's basketball team past Lynchburg, 62-60, in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Warner Center.

With 2:30 remaining, sophomore guard Lacey Currle (Fairfax, Va./Bishop O'Connell) sank a layup off an assist by sophomore forward Lori Fletcher (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) to give the Hornets (11-11, 7-10) a five-point lead at 58-53.

The Generals (9-13, 6-11) were unable to convert on their next possession as a missed layup by Michaels put the ball back in Lynchburg's hands, but the visitors were unable to take advantage of the opportunity, giving the ball back to W&L at 2:04.

A layup by freshman forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) at 1:56 pulled the home squad within 58-55, and another by sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) at 1:20 cut the Hornets' lead to one point (58-57).

Another layup by Hunsinger with 44 seconds remaining completed the comeback and gave the Generals a 59-58 advantage, but Lynchburg responded with 18 seconds remaining as Currle grabbed her own rebound and sank the go ahead bucket (60-59).

Michaels three-pointer was her third triple of the night, compliments of an assist by junior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe).

Michaels led W&L with 18 points and co-led the squad with eight rebounds. Hunsinger also grabbed eight boards and contributed 17 points, while Feve rounded out the Generals' double-digit scorers with 12 points.
Senior guard Abby Pyzik (Westminster, Md./Mercy) scored a game-high 20 points for Lynchburg, while Currle also reached double-figures with12 points.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 p.m. game.
