W&L Women's Basketball Falls To Eastern Mennonite, 57-47

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Stephanie Mathews (Woodstock, Va./Central) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Eastern Mennonite to a 57-47 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Warner Center.

The Generals (3-4, 1-3) took a 17-12 lead with 11:07 remaining in the first half, but the Royals (6-0, 2-0) went on a 13-0 run over the next 5:42 to take an eight-point lead at 25-17. W&L closed out the half on an 11-3 run to tie the score at 28-28 heading into the break.

EMU junior guard Laura Ludholtz (Mount Crawford, Va./Fort Defiance) scored on a layup to open the second half to give the Royals a 30-28 lead and their lead grew to eight points at 43-35 with 12:11 remaining. The Generals sliced the deficit to 43-41 at the 7:56 mark, but the Royals responded with a 10-2 run over the next 5:29 to build their lead back up to 10 points at 53-43.

The Generals were 17-for-56 (.304) from the field and committed 25 turnovers in the loss.

W&L was led by sophomore center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School), who notched her third straight double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She also blocked three shots. Freshman forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson Secondary) had 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.

Ludholtz finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while junior Amanda Renalds (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) had four points and 10 rebounds.

The Generals return to the court on Thursday when they entertain Guilford. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
