W&L Women’s Basketball Defeated By Virginia Wesleyan, 80-68

NORFOLK, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan used a 20-5 run midway through the first half to defeat Washington and Lee, 80-68, in ODAC women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon.

The Generals (3-3, 1-2) led 16-11 with 10:10 remaining in the opening half, but the 20-5 run gave the Marlins a 31-21 lead with 2:29 remaining.

W&L sliced the Marlin lead to 45-41 with 13:05 remaining in the game, but a 12-2 run over the next 3:38 gave Virginia Wesleyan a commanding 57-43 lead that it would not relinquish.

The Marlins were aided by 22 W&L turnovers and by an advantage at the foul line, as they made 24-of-26 free throws compared to just 6-of-14 free throws for the Generals.

W&L was led by junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill), who scored 21 points, all coming in the second half. She also snared eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Freshman forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) totaled 17 points, while sophomore forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) notched 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) added 12 points and nine boards.

Virginia Wesleyan (3-2, 3-0) was led by Katie Heilenday, who totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Allison Wheeler and Erin Voskeritchian both tallied 12 points.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Tuesday as it hosts Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
