W&L Women’s Basketball Falls To No. 23 Randolph-Macon, 69-56

ASHLAND, Va. -- Junior guard Megan Silva scored 29 points to lead 23rd-ranked Randolph-Macon to a 69-56 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va.

The Yellow Jackets (4-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 38-27 halftime lead, only to see the Generals climb to within three-points (52-49) with 7:40 remaining in the game. However, R-MC closed the game on a 17-7 run to take the 13-point victory.

W&L shot just 29.5 percent from the field and hit just 19-of-32 free throws during the contest. Additionally, the Generals hit only 1-of-10 three-point attempts, while Macon held a 49-38 advantage on the boards.

The Generals (3-2, 1-1) were led by freshman forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who notched a career-high 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Sophomore forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) posted 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Silva's 29-point, three-steal effort paced the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore guard Salem Shaffer posted 14 points, six rebounds and six assists, while junior center Michelle Orton added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 4:30 pm contest.
