GREENSBORO, N.C.. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated eighth-seeded Randolph-Macon Woman's College, 30-13, 30-14, 30-19, in an ODAC Tournament quarterfinal match on Friday evening at the Ragan-Brown Field House on the campus of Guilford College.
The Generals (25-7) were led by junior middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma), who registered a team-high 12 kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) added nine kills and six digs while senior defensive specialist Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, V a./Cox) chipped in with a team-best 15 digs and seven aces. Junior right side Laura Byrne (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) notched six kills, four aces, and two blocks and junior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) had six digs and 38 assists.
With the loss, the WildCats finished their season with a record of 11-19.
Washington and Lee returns to the court on Saturday to play the winner of the match between fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan and fifth-seeded Emory & Henry in the ODAC Tournament semifinals. The match begins at 10:30 am.
