W&L Volleyball Defeats Queens and Randolph-Macon, 3-0

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won the Averett Invitational Tournament with a pair of 3-0 wins over Queens College and Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon. The Generals (16-4) defeated Queens, 30-23, 30-21, 30-12 and Randolph-Macon, 30-20, 30-25, 31-29.

In the win over Queens (9-11), the Generals were led by senior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), who tallied 15 kills, six digs and four blocks. Junior right side Laura Byrne (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) notched 11 digs and four kills, while junior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) had 13 kills. Junior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) recorded 37 assists and eight digs.

In the victory over Randolph-Macon (15-5), W&L had two players record a double-double. Wolfing had14 kills and 10 digs while Gladysz amassed 40 assists and 15 digs. Senior defensive specialist Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) chipped in with 22 digs and Gaillard had 10 kills.

Gaillard, the tournament MVP, and Wolfing were both named to the all-tournament team.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bridgewater at 6:30 pm.
