W&L Field Hockey Drops a 3-2 Decision to Roanoke

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team had its four game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to ODAC-rival Roanoke College this afternoon in Salem, Va.

The Generals (4-5, 3-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:01 mark when senior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines) took a pass from junior midfielder Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) and fired it into the back of the Maroons' net. W&L extended its lead to 2-0 when freshman defender Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) scored off a feed from Beall.

Roanoke (6-4, 2-1) cut the lead to 2-1 when freshman Leanne Clark scored at 27:12. Senior Kaylin Leavitt assisted on the goal. The Generals went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

The Maroons tied it at 2-2 on Clark's second goal of the game less than eight minutes in the second half. At 52:54, freshman Liz Hudson gave Roanoke a 3-2 lead, which it wouldn't relinquish, when she found the back of the Generals' net off a pass from freshman Margaux Stunzi.

Generals junior goalkeeper Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) made four saves while freshman Lindsay Paz stopped six shots for the Maroons.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Pennsylvania to play Juniata. The game begins at 12:00 pm.
