W&L Women's Soccer Ties Guilford, 2-2

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Guilford College scored two goals in a span of 2:01 late in the second half to force a 2-2 tie with Washington and Lee in ODAC women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals (7-1-3, 5-1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 32:12 gone-by as freshman forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) found the net unassisted. The lead pushed to 2-0 at the 67:16 mark when sophomore forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) scored off a save and rebound.

The Quakers (3-7-2, 2-2-2) were held in check until junior forward Trina Scurka (Mt. Gilead, N.C./Cary) scored on an open goal following a save by W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) at the 79:02 mark. Guilford then knotted the score when sophomore forward Jennah Carter (Orlando, Fla./Oviedo) corralled another rebounded shot and fired a shot home at the 80:59 mark.

W&L had scoring chances near the end of regulation and overtime, but could not beat GC sophomore goalkeeper Veronica Zych (Champaign, Ill./University Lab School) who made several saves in the final minutes of regulation and both overtimes to preserve the tie. She posted 12 saves for the game.

Barker notched four saves in goal for the Generals, who held a 26-9 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Roanoke for a 12:00 pm contest.
