LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior defender Peter Miller (Towson, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Generals past Lynchburg, 4-1, in ODAC men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.

Miller got W&L (6-6-3, 3-3-3) on the board at the 26:23 mark when he scored off an assist by junior midfielder Matt Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry). Lynchburg responded with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Joe Jewell (Fairfax Station, Va./W.T. Woodson) at the 35:00 mark, but the Generals carried a 2-1 lead into the half following a goal by freshman forward Court Nexson (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal), which was assisted by Miller and senior forward Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest).

The Generals went up 3-1 as Miller fed junior midfielder Brett Strohsacker (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) for a goal in the 59th minute, and capped the scoring on a goal by freshman forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) off an assist from freshman midfielder Josh Dodds (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) in the 63rd minute.

Freshmen Jim Tartaglia (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) and Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) split time in goal, combining for three saves.

Junior Dan Ruch (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield) and freshman Marcus Jordan (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown) both played in goal for the Hornets (9-7-1, 4-5), making nine saves.

W&L outshot Lynchburg, 28-9, and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Generals return to action on Saturday in the first round of the ODAC Tournament. The Generals will be the sixth seed and will travel to face an opponent yet to be determined.
