ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved its winning streak to a school-record 17 straight matches with a pair of 3-0 wins on Saturday afternoon at Marymount University. The Generals (22-4) defeated Messiah, 30-14, 30-23, 30-22, before downing the host Saints, 30-20, 30-14, 30-17.
In the victory over Messiah (7-15), the Generals were led by senior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), who totaled 15 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) notched 13 kills, while junior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) posted 10 kills. Senior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) registered 12 digs and nine service aces, while junior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) amassed 39 assists and 11 digs.
In the win over Marymount (20-12), W&L was paced by junior right side Laura Byrne (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), who tallied seven kills and 14 digs. Wolfing notched 10 kills and 10 digs, while junior middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) added 10 kills. Gladysz racked up 43 assists, eight digs and four aces.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Roanoke for a 6:30 pm match.
