W&L Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Marymount Tournament

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) set a new program record for service aces in a match as the Washington and Lee volleyball team recorded a pair of victories and one loss at the Marymount Tournament on Saturday. The Generals fell to Susquehanna, 3-1, in the opening match, then rebounded to defeat Averett and Emory & Henry, 3-0.

The Generals (23-3) dropped the decision to Susquehanna with game scores of 30-11, 27-30, 25-30 and 24-30. Washington and Lee then defeated Averett, 30-27, 30-16, 30-19, and Emory & Henry, 30-20, 30-23, 30-23.

In the match against Susquehanna, junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded 17 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) notched 15 kills and five blocks. Gladysz added 42 assists and 13 digs.

Against Averett, Gaillard led the way with 14 kills, while Wolfing recorded 13 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) posted eight kills and six blocks.

In W&L's win over Emory & Henry, Gladysz recorded a triple-double, amassing 49 assists, 12 digs and 10 aces. Her 10 aces stand as a new program record, besting the previous record of nine held by Lee Charbonnet since 1998 and Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) since 2002. Gaillard added 14 kills, while Chastain had 12 kills and Wolfing had nine kills.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday, when it travels to Hollins for a 6:30 pm contest.
