SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Senior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) scored two goals to help lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Sweet Briar on Tuesday afternoon in Sweet Briar, Va.
The Vixens (3-9, 2-6) took a 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the game when Kyli Izzi scored off a pass from Whitney Shaffer. Zagol tied the game at 1-1 at the 21:31 mark when she received a pass from sophomore forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and buried the shot into the back of Sweet Briar's net.
Wiltshire gave the Generals (9-1-3, 7-1-1) a 2-1 lead when she scored with two and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman defender Haley Bunting (Bellaire, Texas/St. John's) notched the assist. W&L went into halftime with its 2-1 lead.
Zagol ended the scoring just under nine minutes into the second half with her second goal of the game. Wiltshire recorded her second assist on the goal.
W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) played all 90:00 to earn her eighth victory of the season. Abby Brown made eight saves for the Vixens.
The Generals outshot Sweet Briar, 21-1, and had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 2 Trinity (Texas) University. The game is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
