W&L Men's Basketball Drops 58-45 Decision at Virginia Wesleyan

NORFOLK, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan raced out to a 32-22 halftime advantage and extended its lead in the second half as the Marlins defeated Washington and Lee, 58-45, in ODAC men's basketball action in Sunday afternoon.

The Generals (2-8, 1-3) cut the Virginia Wesleyan (9-0, 3-0) lead to five points midway through the second half, but the Marlins outpaced W&L in the final minutes to stay undefeated on the season.

Freshman forward Coleman Lyons (Atlanta, Ga./Phillips Academy) led the Generals with his second-straight 12-point performance, while sophomore guard Ryan Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and sophomore forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) each contributed nine points.

Washington and Lee shot 17-for-47 (36.2%) from the field and sank 6-for-10 (60.0%) from the foul line. The Generals grabbed 30 rebounds on the afternoon and turned the ball over 15 times.

David Doino led Virginia Wesleyan with a game-high 16 points while Peter Warren and Marques Fitch each reached double digits with 14 and 10 points respectively. The Marlins shot 20-for-46 (43.5%) from the field, 12-for-20 (60.0%) from the charity stripe, grabbed 33 boards and turned the ball over eight times.

Washington and Lee returns to action in Saturday, January 10, when the Generals travel to Roanoke. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
