W&L Men's Basketball Falls to Randolph-Macon, 75-56

ASHLAND, Va. -- Randolph-Macon took a nine-point advantage into halftime and extended its lead in the second half as the eighth-ranked Yellow Jackets downed Washington and Lee, 75-56, in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (2-7, 1-2) managed to stay within striking distance of Randolph-Macon (9-0, 3-0) midway through the second half, climbing to within six points and notching the scoreboard at 45-39 with 10:26 left in the contest. The Yellow Jackets, however, used a 17-for-32 shooting performance that included five three-pointers in the final stanza to take the victory.

Freshman forward Coleman Lyons (Atlanta, Ga./Phillips Academy) led W&L's offensive efforts with 12 points, while sophomore guard Ryan Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore forward Matt Lawless (Williamsburg, Va./Bishop O'Connell) grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Justin Wansley led Randolph-Macon with a game-high 22 points while snagging a co-game-high nine rebounds. Ryan Stein scored 13 points for the Yellowjackets, while Kurt Bergmann rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points while co-leading the game with nine rebounds.

The Generals went 24-for-60 (40.0%) from the field and 4-for-10 (40.0%) from the charity stripe. Randolph-Macon shot 55.1 percent from the floor (27-for-49) including 8-for-18 (44.4%) from beyond the three-point line. The Yellow Jackets also managed a 13-for-24 (54.2%) performance from the foul line.

Washington and Lee returns to action tomorrow when the Generals travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
