W&L Swimming Splits At Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team won 10 events as the Generals defeated Gettysburg, 126-79, on Sunday afternoon. On the women's side W&L fell to the Bullets, 146-30.

On the men's side, senior Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) and freshmen Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) each won two individual events and broke a pool record to help Washington & Lee remain undefeated this season.

Ritter touched the wall first in the 100 Back with a record time of 53.62, while Ginder's time in the 200 Free reset the pool best at 1:45.73. Ginder also won the 100 free (48.85) and Ritter won the 50 free (22.00).

Sophomore Clark Barrineau (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) also won a pair of individual events on the day with top finishes in the 1000 Free (10:22.16) and 500 Free (5:00.96), while junior Christopher Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and freshman Benjamin Accinelli (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) recorded single event wins. Colby won the 100 Fly (53.74) and Accinelli took top honors in the 100 Breast (1:05.23).

Accinelli combined with freshman Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), senior Drew Catanese (Southampton, Mass./Suffield Academy and sophomore Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) for a first-place time of 1:42.45 in the 200 Medley Relay, while Ritter, Colby and Ginder teamed with Catanese for first in the 200 Free Relay (1:30.15)

For the women, sophomore Kristine Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) recorded the Generals' highest individual place of the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 Free (2:02.08).

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday, January 31 when the Generals host Marymount. Meet time is 3:00 p.m.
