HOLLINS, Va. -- Freshman Amanda Kite scored a career-high 20 points to lead Hollins University past Washington and Lee, 67-65, on Friday evening in ODAC women's basketball action.
Hollins held a slim 29-26 halftime edge, but saw the Generals take a four-point lead (48-44) with 11:16 remaining in the game. However, W&L could not pull away and the two teams fought it out with the game being tied six times in the final 11 minutes. The Generals again took the lead at 62-61 with 2:35 to play on a three-pointer by senior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), but Hollins hit six straight foul shots in the final 2:15 to secure its first ODAC win of the season.
W&L (8-8, 5-6) was led by sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill), who scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. Michaels tallied 18 points, while freshman forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) notched 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Hollins (2-11, 1-9) was paced by Kite's career night. Junior guard Brandi Cochran added 18 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the floor. Hollins hit all 13 of its free throws and shot 54.3 percent (25-46) from the floor.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Emory & Henry for a 4:00 pm contest.
