W&L Women’s Basketball Falls To Lynchburg, 70-61

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's basketball team recovered from a 10-point, halftime deficit to defeat Washington and Lee, 70-61, in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon.

After enjoying a 35-25 lead at the half, the Generals (7-7, 5-5) suffered a 14-4 run by the Hornets that tied the contest, 39-39, with 13:19 remaining in the game.

The score remained close over the next 10 minutes as each team regained the lead twice and the score was locked up four times. At 3:19 Lynchburg guard Shannon Newton drilled her second three-pointer of the day to raise the score to 55-52 and give the Hornets the final lead of the game. Lynchburg outscored the Generals, 18-9, in the final minutes to record the win.

Sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) led W&L with a game-high 22 points, while junior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and rounded the Generals' double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Caroline Wesley led three Hornets in double-figures with 18 points, while Abby Pyzik combined 17 points with a game-high 13 rebounds for the game's only double-double. Shannon Newton also reached double-digits with 16 points on the afternoon.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday when it hosts Mary Washington. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
