W&L Women’s Basketball Edges Hollins, 60-57

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) scored a career-high 24 points as the Washington and Lee women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit and defeated Hollins, 60-57, in ODAC action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

Hollins (1-9, 0-7) took a 50-40 lead with 9:12 remaining in the game as junior guard Brandi Cochran (Hillsville, Va./Carroll County) closed a 17-6 run by the visitors with her third three-pointer of the day.

Following Cochran's triple, Hunsinger went to the charity stripe at 8:23 and hit 1-of-2 foul shots, sparking a 20-7 game-ending run for the Generals (6-6, 4-4). With 1:31 remaining, W&L took the lead for good as senior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Granby) drained a three-pointer and set the score at 58-55 in the Generals' favor.

Hunsinger combined a game-high 17 rebounds with her 24-point performance, while sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds and a game-high five assists. Michaels, who's three-pointer in the final moments of the game marked her only points of the second half, scored nine in the first half for 12 points on the day.

Cochran combined a 6-for-11 performance from the field with a 3-for-6 showing from beyond the three-point arc for a team-high 17 points. Freshman forward Amanda Kite (Salem, Va./Glenvar) scored 13 points and grabbed a co-team-high eight rebounds, while sophomore forward LeighAnn Woodley (Salem, Va./Glenvar) reached double-digits with 10 points. Sophomore guard Coby Wilmer (Buena Vista, Va./Parry McCluer) also grabbed eight rebounds while scoring nine points.

The Generals return to action on Friday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
