NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Sunday afternoon.
Senior forward Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored the Generals (3-3, 2-1) lone goal on a game ending penalty corner.
Splitting the time in goal for W&L was sophomores Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin). Gelinas started the contest and made six saves, while Harrison took over net-minding duties in the second half with five saves.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-0, 3-0) outshot the Generals 27-5, and held an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Washington and Lee returns to action Wed., Oct. 1 when the Generals travel to Mary Washington. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
