ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of action at the Emory University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals (10-2) defeated East Texas Baptist, 30-26, 25-30, 30-18, 30-26, and fell to Emory, 18-30, 18-30, 30-25, 26-30.
In the win over ETBU, W&L was paced by junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who tallied 16 kills and 15 digs. Junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) amassed 15 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore middle blockers Ashleigh Overly (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) recorded 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) added 52 assists.
In the loss to Emory, Wolfing led the way with 11 kills and 17 digs, while Gaillard totaled 10 kills. Junior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) recorded 19 digs and Gladysz registered 31 assists and 18 digs.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Guilford for a 6:30 pm contest.
