W&L Men's Soccer Defeats Hampden-Sydney, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Keith Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) buried a goal with just four minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie, and lift the Washington and Lee men's soccer team past Hampden-Sydney, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) put the Generals (4-0-1, 1-0-1) on the board at 57:04, locking the score at 1-1. After Sullivan's goal, Pirkle iced the win off a free-kick, bending a left-footed shot around the Hampden-Sydney wall and into the net at 87:32.

The Tigers (5-3, 0-2) took a 1-0 first-half lead off the foot of freshman forward Marcus Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes).

Hampden-Sydney held a narrow 12-10 advantage in shots, while Washington and Lee took four corners to the Tigers' five.

Sophomore goalie Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) made six stops in the Generals' net while freshman keeper Nathaniel Dallas (Hendersonville, Tenn./Handersonville) made three saves for the Tigers.
