W&L Field Hockey Defeats Sweet Briar, 6-1

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore midfielder Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) scored two goals and assisted on another as the Generals defeated Sweet Briar, 6-1, in ODAC field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon.

W&L (2-2, 2-0) assumed a 3-0 halftime edge as junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherine's), sophomore defender Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and junior forward Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) all found the cage in the first session. Brown's goal was assisted by freshman defender Amy Vollkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby).

Volkmann then capped the second half scoring by tallying off a feed from Beall with 1:42 remaining in the game.
Sophomores Elise Gelinas (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Agnes Irwin) and Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) split time in goal, recording one save each.

Sweet Briar (4-3, 1-3) sophomore Jenn Wiley played all 70 minutes in goal for the Vixens, notching 18 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday evening as it hosts Catawba for a 6:00 pm contest.
