W&L Men's Soccer Beats Catholic, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) scored a pair of goals to propel the Washington and Lee men's soccer team past Catholic, 3-1, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Fellow junior midfielder Justin Mygatt (Marietta, Ga./Woodward Academy) scored the Generals (3-0) third goal of the contest and assisted on Pirkle's first score of the day. The victory marks the first time W&L has won three straight games since the 2001 squad put together a three-game, and a seven-game winning streak.

Pirkle found the back of the net early in the match, burying a cross from Mygatt 3:35 into the contest. He scored again, this time unassisted, at 20:46 to give the Generals a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Mygatt netted his goal at 52:49 to give W&L a 3-0 lead. Freshman forward Sandy Piracci (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) earned an assist on the goal.

Sophomore defender Matt Brideau (Fairfax Station, Va./Bishop Ireton) scored Catholic's (0-3-2) lone tally at 87:00.
