W&L Field Hockey Falls, 3-4, to Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team fell, 3-4 to Johns Hopkins in non-conference action on Saturday

Johns Hopkins (2-2) used a pair of first-half goals to hold off a late game push by the visiting Generals, getting both scores from sophomore Meighan Roose. Washington and Lee started its come-back bid early in the second half as senior Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) buried a goal unassisted at 31:40.

The Blue Jays responded with a goal by senior Jenny Farrelly at 29:56, but the Generals kept the home team within striking distance compliments of a second goal from Taffe at 24:59. Caite Kappel sank the eventual game-winner for the Blue Jays at 18:53 to put the game out of W&L's reach.

Jane Beall (Midlothian, Va./James River) capped the afternoon's scoring for the Generals off an assist from Kitt Murphy with 5:40 to play.

Splitting the time in goal, sophomore Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) made 10 saves and sophomore Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin) made five stops.

The Generals return to action tomorrow, September 14 when they travel to Villa Julie. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
