W&L Men's Basketball Downed by E&H, 80-67

EMORY, Va. -- The Emory & Henry men's basketball team used a 20-2 second-half run in defeating Washington and Lee, 80-67, on Wednesday evening in the King Center.

The Wasps (10-10, 5-8 ODAC) held a 44-31 advantage at halftime. The Generals (5-14, 2-11 ODAC) then opened the second frame with a 13-6 run to cut the E&H advantage to 50-44 with 14:35 remaining. However, the Wasps responded by ripping off 20 points to the Generals' two, extending their lead to 70-46 with 7:54 left in the game and cruising to final margin.

W&L shot 36.4 percent from the field for the game (24-of-66) and committed 23 turnovers compared to the Wasps' 41.3 percent marksmanship (26-of-63) and 18 turnovers.

Junior guard Justin Call scored a game-high 16 points, including 10-of-10 shooting from the free throw line, to lead four E&H players in double figures. Senior guards Jay Rosser (14 points) and Paul Russo (10 points), along with sophomore forward Will Sloan (10 points) were the others to reach double-digits.

Pacing a quartet of Generals in double figures was sophomore guard Ian McClure (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual), who scored a team-high 13 points. Freshman forward Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) finished with 12 points, while freshman guard Ryan Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) added 11 and senior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) had 10.

W&L will return to the hardwood on Saturday when it hosts ODAC-rival Hampden-Sydney in a 3:00 pm contest.
