W&L Women’s Basketball Falls At Mary Washington, 65-49

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team was unable to overcome its 24 turnovers and fell, 65-49, to Mary Washington in non-conference action on Monday evening in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Generals, who dropped to 3-19 overall, shot a season-best 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from the field, but were done in by their -13 turnover margin (24-11).

Mary Washington (8-14) established a 31-24 halftime lead, but saw the gap cut to one (35-34) with 15:07 to play. The Generals stayed within striking distance, trailing by five (44-39) with 6:28 remaining, but the Eagles converted 13-of-14 second half free throws for the win.

W&L sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly's (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) five assists moved her into a tie with Jessica Morton '00 for first in program history in career assists (228). She also collected a game-high eight boards.

Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) keyed the Generals' offense, tallying 21 and 18 points respectively.

The Eagles were led by senior guard Caitlin Wilkinson and junior center Adrienne Barnes. Wilkinson finished with 20 points, six boards and four assists, while Barnes had 13 points, all of which came in the second half.

The Generals finish their season series at Bridgewater on Wednesday with a 7:00 pm game.
