LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Generals past Eastern Mennonite, 76-73, in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday evening at the Warner Center.
W&L (8-15, 5-12) led 42-29 at the break, but the Royals chipped away to cut the lead to one point (67-66) with 5:19 remaining in the game. However, that would be as close as EMU would get the rest of the way.
Hettermann was one of four Generals to record double figures in the game. Freshman center David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) notched 15 points and 10 rebounds, junior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) registered 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) added 10 points and six assists.
Eastern Mennonite (3-21, 1-16) was led by freshman forward Bryan Williams (Stafford, Va./Evangel Christian), who scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior guard Mike Culen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) scored 16 points, while sophomore forward EJ Arrington (Staunton, Va./Stuarts Draft) chipped in with 14 points.
W&L shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor and held a 43-30 advantage on the boards, but had to recover from committing 22 turnovers.
Washington and Lee will end its regular season on Tuesday as it travels to Bridgewater for a 7:00 pm contest.
