GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Washington and Lee shot a season-best 56.0 percent from the field (28-of-50) and defeated Guilford, 72-57, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday evening in Greensboro, N.C.
The Generals' (7-15, 4-12) broke a 20-20 first-half tie with a 14-3 run and carried a 34-26 lead into intermission before cruising to their second win in as many games in the second half.
Sophomore guard Ian McClure (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) paced four Generals in double figures with a game-high 19 points, including 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. He also collected five rebounds. Senior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) tallied 18 points, five boards and five assists. Freshman forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and sophomore guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) were the others to reach double-digits, totaling 15 and 14 points respectively.
The Quakers (10-13, 6-10), who were outscored 32-14 in the paint, were paced by junior guard Eric Williams' 15 points.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they host Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 pm in their home-finale.
