W&L Women’s Basketball Clipped By E&H, 55-48

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Emory & Henry withstood a late-game charge by Washington and Lee and pulled out a 55-48 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Wasps (15-6, 13-3) opened up a game-high 11-point lead (39-28) with 10:15 to play. However, sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) keyed an 8-0 W&L run with two jumpers that cut the Wasps' advantage to 39-36 with 7:51 left in the game.

Three points was the closest the Generals would come, though, as the Wasps connected on 9-of-10 free throws to close out the game.

Junior guard Dawn Chewning (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd) scored a team-high 14 points to lead E&H. Junior forward Erin Connelly (Morganton, N.C./Freedom) complimented her with 11 points and eight boards.

Leading the way for the Generals (3-17, 3-14) was junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), whose 15 points were a game-high. Dannelly added a career-high-tying 14 points along with a career-best nine rebounds.

W&L gets back on the floor again tomorrow evening when it travels to Lynchburg for a 7:00 pm contest.
