W&L Women’s Basketball Defeats Southern Virginia, 70-49

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Four Generals scored in double figures and two players recorded a double-double as Washington and Lee defeated visiting Southern Virginia University, 70-49, in women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

Senior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) led W&L with her second-straight double-double, coming on a game-high 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Freshman forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) notched her second career double-double after scoring 14 points and grabbing a game- and career-high 18 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) was among the Generals' leaders with 15 points, seven rebounds and a game- and career-high seven assists. Freshman guard Sarah Otey (Williamsburg, Va./Hampton-Roads) rounded out W&L's double-digit scorers after tying her career-high with 12 points.

Southern Virginia (5-9) was led by junior center Carlie Wiechman's (Sandy, Utah) team-high 18 points. Senior guard Tania Moe (Troy, Mich.) and freshman guard Kim Anderson (Orem, Utah) co-led the Knights with six rebounds apiece.

The victory stretched the Generals' winning streak to three games and eclipsed last season's win total.
Washington and Lee will take an extended break from competition before returning to action on Sat., Jan. 3, when they travel to Roanoke for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
