GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Washington and Lee allowed Guilford just six made field goals in the second half as the Generals defeated the Quakers, 59-50, in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore guard Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) led W&L (2-3, 1-0) with a career-high 15 points while freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) added a career-high 14 points in the victory.
Guilford (2-4, 0-1) took a 33-25 lead into the half-time break, but saw its control of the game slip away in the second half. The Quakers held a 37-27 lead with 18:10 remaining, but a 16-3 run by the Generals gave W&L a 43-40 lead with 9:26 left to play.
For the game, W&L shot 41.7 percent (20-for-48) while Guilford managed to connect on just 16-of-55 from the field (29.1%).
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday, when the Generals host Chowan for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
