Virginia Wesleyan Defeats Washington and Lee, 78-49

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Leading by four points (38-34) with 17:50 remaining in the second half, Virginia Wesleyan used a 23-5 run over the next 10:24 to put Washington and Lee away in a 78-49 win over the Generals in ODAC men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Blue Marlins shot 53.8 percent for the game, including a blistering 65.2 percent in the second half. VWC also hit 11-of-18 three-point attempts for the game (.611). The Generals shot just 33.9 percent from the field, including 25 percent in the second half.

Virginia Wesleyan (4-2, 2-1) was led by senior forward Ron Yuhasz (Dover, Del./Caeser Rodney), who scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Frankie Cabrera (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point stripe. Junior guard James Wallace (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting beyond the arc as well.

Washington and Lee (0-7, 0-2) was led by sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon), who tallied career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (10). He also notched three assists, one block and two steals. Sophomore point guard Will Cotter (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) scored 12 points and handed out four assists.

Washington and Lee will be in action again on Wednesday evening as it hosts Bridgewater for a 7:00 pm contest.
