NORFOLK, Va. -- Kelvin Murray scored a pair of goals and added one assist as top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan bested Washington and Lee, 3-1, in the ODAC Tournament championship on Saturday evening.
Following a scoreless first half, the Marlins (16-3) cracked the scoreboard at 50:03 as Mark Tribendis scored off an assist from Murray. Murray extended the Virginia Wesleyan lead to 2-0 with the eventual game-winner at 55:53.
The Generals (7-6-4) cut the Marlins lead in half at 65:25 when junior midfielder Justin Mygatt (Marietta, Ga./Woodward Acad.) scored off an assist from junior forward Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest).
Virginia Wesleyan pushed its lead to 3-1 when Murray scored unassisted at 87:57.
Sophomore goalie Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) played all 90 minutes for W&L, making four saves. Sean Wheaton manned the Marlins net, making three saves on the day.
The Generals wrap up the 2003 season with a 7-6-4 overall record
