W&L Women's Soccer Downs Lynchburg, 1-0, In ODAC Semifinal Match

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Kerry Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./No. Highlands Reg.) scored the lone-goal to lift the second-seeded Washington and Lee women's soccer team over third-seeded Lynchburg, 1-0, in the ODAC tournament semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

After battling to a 0-0 tie through 60 minutes, the Generals (14-1-2) broke the stalemate as Giblin connected on a failed clear by the Hornets (14-6-2) at 60:28, pounding the ball past the Lynchburg goalie.

Lynchburg spent the remainder of the game pressing on offense, but a trio of key saves from W&L junior keeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) in the final minutes preserved the Generals' victory. Barker made four stops on the day.

Junior goalie Katie DeLorenzo (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) played all 90 minutes in the Hornets goal, recording one save.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when the Generals travel to Virginia Wesleyan to face the Marlins for the ODAC championship. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
