LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Keith Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) scored off a header at 79:12 to lift the Washington and Lee men's soccer team past Lynchburg, 1-0, in ODAC action Wednesday afternoon.
Sullivan put the Generals (6-0-2) on the board when he headed the ball off a pass from junior defender Peter Miller (Towson, Md./Baltimore Lutheran).
Sophomore Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and junior Christopher Carlson (Santa Monica, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) split time in the Generals' goal. Stanton started in the net and made six saves before Carlson took over in the second half, making one stop.
Sophomore Dan Ruch manned the Hornets' (4-7, 1-3) goal, making five saves.
Lynchburg outshot W&L, 12-9, and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sat., Oct. 11, when it hosts Roanoke. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
