LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Kristin Moyer (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored two goals as the Eastern Mennonite field hockey team defeated Washington and Lee, 5-3, in ODAC action on Wednesday night.
The game was started on Oct. 14, but suspended due to lightening with 16:30 remaining on the clock and EMU leading 4-1. The Generals (9-8, 6-3) and Royals (14-3, 8-1) reconvened on Wednesday to finish the contest.
After play resumed, W&L took steps to even the game as sophomore defender Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends School) scored unassisted at 11:58 to make the score 4-2.
The Royals answered with 3:46 remaining as freshman midfielder Kristie Souder (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) scored off an assist from Stephanie Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock).
Senior Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) put the Generals on the board again at the 1:28 mark with her second goal of the game, but the effort proved to be the W&L offense's last.
Sophomores Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin) and Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) split time in the Generals' goal. Gelinas started and made four saves, while Harrison played in the second half and made five saves.
Freshman Emily Chamelin (Westminster, Md./Westminster) played all 70 minutes for EMU, making five saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when the third-seeded Generals host sixth-seeded Randolph-Macon in the first round of the ODAC tournament. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
