NORFOLK, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan used a goal in each half to blank Washington and Lee, 2-0, in ODAC men's soccer action on Saturday night.
The Marlins (11-2, 6-0) took a 1-0 lead at 41:30 when Phil Neiland finished off a pass from Ross McLeod. After the break, Virginia Wesleyan pushed it's lead to 2-0 when Kelvin Murray stole the ball from the W&L (6-3-2, 2-2-2) defense and beat the keeper 1-on-1 at the 59:11 mark.
Junior Christopher Carlson (Santa Monica, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) played all 90 minutes in the Generals' goal, making five stops. Sean Wheaton covered the Marlin net, stopping six W&L shots.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Generals, 14-9, while W&L held a narrow 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Generals return to action onWednesday when they host Guilford. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
