W&L Football Falls at Hampden-Sydney, 45-17

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney racked up 548 yards of total offense, led by sophomore quarterback J.D. Ricca's 255 yards passing and five touchdowns, in defeating Washington and Lee, 45-17, on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers (5-1, 3-1) broke open a 3-3 game with three touchdowns in a span of 7:05, including a 98-yard touchdown pass from senior wide receiver Conrad Singh to junior wide receiver Tripp Murchison to make the score 24-3 with 11:24 remaining in the second quarter.

The Generals (2-4, 1-2) sliced the H-SC lead to 24-10 on a 28-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Richard Garland (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) with 8:38 left in the half, but the Tigers added two late-half touchdowns for a 38-10 lead at the break.

Garland led the W&L ground game with 32 yards on three carries, while senior quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) completed 26-of-40 passes for a career-high 293 yards and one touchdown.  Junior wide receiver John Barnwell (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) hauled in a career-high eight passes for 99 yards and sophomore wide receiver Clark Kensinger (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) caught four passes for 62 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.  Senior defensive lineman Brian Becker (Vienna, Va./Gonzaga) paced the W&L defense with nine tackles.

Singh, the nation's leading receiver, caught nine passes for 146 yards and a touchdown, while junior running back CW Clemmons rushed 17 times for 46 yards and caught three passes for 56 yards and three touchdowns.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Guilford for a 1:00 pm contest.
