W&L Women's Soccer Falls To Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Sharon Hay (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) scored the lone-goal game-winner as the 24th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team handed 12th-ranked Washington and Lee it's first loss on the year, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Hay scored 23 minutes into the match off an assist from sophomore midfielder Marybeth Shanks (Richmond, Va.).
Junior Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) served all 90 minutes in the Generals' (10-1-1, 7-1-0) goal, making four saves. Senior keeper Sabrina Hurczyn (Bristol, Conn./Eastern) played all 90 minutes for the Marlins (13-1-1, 8-0-0) and made two saves.

Virginia Wesleyan outshot W&L 11-4 and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern Mennonite. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
