W&L Volleyball Wins Savannah Art & Design Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team finished the Savannah Art & Design Invitational with a perfect 5-0 record after defeating Guilford (30-13, 30-21, 30-17), Southern Virginia (30-23, 30-20, 30-20) and Savannah A&D (30-23, 30-19, 30-21) on Saturday afternoon.

Junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and freshman outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) were all named to the all-tournament team.

Against Guilford, the Generals (19-2) were paced by Hurt's 11 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) totaled 10 kills and four blocks, while Wolfing notched nine kills and 10 digs. Gladysz amassed 41 assists.

Against Southern Virginia, Hurt again led the way with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Gaillard totaled 15 kills and Wolfing registered 10 kills and 17 digs. Gladysz had 42 assists and junior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) totaled 13 digs.

In the match with SCAD, Wolfing notched 12 kills and 15 digs. Gaillard totaled 13 kills and five blocks, while Hurt recorded 11 kills and 12 digs. Wolfing added 12 kills and 15 digs and Gladysz had 41 assists, 10 digs and four blocks.

W&L returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 5:30 pm contest.
