LEXINGTON, Va. --The Washington and Lee men's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as the Generals lost to Roanoke, 2-1, in ODAC action.
Sophomore forward Elliott Stallings (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) broke a 1-1 draw at 39:33, intercepting a failed W&L (6-1-2, 2-1-2) clear and burying the goal to give the Maroons (9-2-1, 5-1-0) the win.
After watching Roanoke take a 1-0 lead off a goal from freshman defender Brian Walter (Columbia, Md./River Hill), W&L rallied and evened the score with a goal from freshman midfielder Rhett McCraw (Greenville, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal) at 28:54.
Despite a tightly matched second half, neither team was able to score again.
Sophomore Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and junior Christopher Carlson (Santa Monica, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) split time in the Generals' goal. Stanton started the game and made one save, while Carlson took over the net in the second half and made two saves.
Junior Harper Thorsen (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) played all 90 minutes in the Roanoke goal and made four saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tues., Oct. 14 when the Generals host VMI. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
