LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) scored the lone General goal as the Washington and Lee field hockey team fell to Bridgewater, 2-1, on Friday night.
The Eagles (5-4, 2-4) took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a goal from senior forward Barbara Roebuck (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) at 27:41. After the break, sophomore forward Sarah Anne Evans (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) stretched the visitors' lead to 2-0 with a goal at 19:37.
Beall sparked a late-game offensive push for W&L (4-5, 3-2) when she sank her goal at 9:06 off an assist from junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines). However, the Generals were unable to score the equalizing goal in the final nine minutes.
Junior forward Carissa VanAlstine (King George, Va./King George) and sophomore midfielder Jennie Hoffsmith (Palmyra, Pa./Mt. Calvary) both recorded an assist for Bridgewater.
Splitting time in goal for the Generals were sophomores Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin). Harrison started the contest, while Gelinas took over net-minding duties in the second half. Gelinas made a pair of saves.
Senior keeper Kristi Martin (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) covered the cage for the Eagles, making six saves on the day.
