W&L Men's Basketball Falls to Virginia Weslyean, 70-54

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan hit 23-of-25 free throws in the second half and erased a 27-21 halftime deficit in defeating Washington and Lee, 70-54, in ODAC men's basketball action at the Warner Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Marlins (8-1, 3-0) took the lead for good with 12:40 remaining in the game as senior forward Bill Gobble (Chesapeake, Va./Western Albemarle) hit a jumper to make the score 35-34. VWC then broke the game open with a 12-2 run over a span of 2:54 to assume a 56-45 lead with 5:14 remaining.

Senior guard Louis Park (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) led four Marlins in double-figures with 15 points, 13 of which were scored in the second half. Freshman guard Marques Fitch (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) added 13 points and five rebounds, while freshman forward TyRon Northam (Pocomoke City, Md./Pocomoke) tallied 12 points. Senior forward Ryan Kahle (Falls Church, Va./McLean) added 10 points.

Washington and Lee (3-3, 0-2) was led by senior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon), who scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Sophomore center Mark Franceski (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) scored nine points and grabbed nine boards, while junior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) added nine points.

Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts Guilford for a 7:00 pm contest.
