W&L Women’s Basketball Knocked Off By Roanoke, 72-30

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Roanoke women's basketball team used a 14-2 run at the beginning of the second half to cruise to a 72-30 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

Sophomore forward Jennie Schafer (Centreville, Va./Centreville) converted a layup with 19:20 remaining in the second half to start the run, and then finished it with two free throws to give the Maroons (5-1, 3-0 ODAC) a 44-13 advantage with 15:00 minutes to play.

Schafer finished as the game's leading scorer with 19 points. She also helped Roanoke outrebound W&L (57-33), as she was one of four players to total seven rebounds.

The Generals, who fell to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in the ODAC, were led by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) who finished with a team-high 10 points. Senior forward Elizabeth Igo (Claymont, Del./Archmere Academy) corralled a game-high 11 rebounds.

W&L kicks off a three-game week on Wednesday when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 6:00 pm game.
