LEXINGTON, Va. -- Third-ranked Randolph-Macon hit each of its first seven shots and built a 40-17 halftime lead in defeating Washington and Lee, 65-41, in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The Yellow Jackets (9-0, 3-0) used a 15-0 run midway through the opening quarter to stretch a 14-9 lead to 29-9 with 10:30 remaining and cruised to the win.
R-MC senior forward Jared Mills (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Catholic) led the way with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 21 minutes of action. Junior forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) also tallied 16 points for the Yellow Jackets who shot 52.2 percent from the floor.
W&L (3-2, 0-1) was led by freshman guard Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont), who scored 13 points. Senior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) added 10 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 3:00 pm contest.
