LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore guard Ricky Easterling (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining to lift Bridgewater to a 66-64 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
Bridgewater (11-6, 5-5) did not trail after the 14:46 mark of the first half (4-2), but the Generals rallied from a 29-23 halftime deficit to tie the game several times in the second stanza. The final tie occurred when W&L junior guard Michael Denbow (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) recorded a steal and layup with 34 seconds remaining to tie the game at 64-64.
Bridgewater held for the final shot and Easterling was fouled on a drive by W&L sophomore guard Ian McClure (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) setting up the game-winning free throws.
Sophomore guard Ashby Tarkington (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) led the Eagles with 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Easterling tallied 15 points.
W&L (5-12, 2-9) was led by McClure who scored 18 points, all in the second half, on 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Junior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) totaled 13 points, while sophomore guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) added 10 points. Denbow notched eight points, seven assists and five steals.
The Generals registered a season-low 12 turnovers, but were beat on the boards, 38-27.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday evening as it travels to Roanoke College for a 7:00 pm contest.
