WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team competed in the McDaniel Quadrangular on Saturday afternoon in Westminster, Md.
The Generals (2-8, 0-4 Centennial) defeated Gallaudet (40-12) before falling to Ursinus (48-3) and McDaniel (35-12).
Junior Michael Bennett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won all three of his matches grappling at 197. Bennett pinned Gallaudet's Dennis Cruz in 2:06, took a 9-5 decision against Ursinus' Sebastian Voltarelli and handled McDaniel's Adam Dayton, 14-6.
Sophomore Brian Avello (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Cardinal Newman) compiled a 2-1 mark at 174. Avello won by forfeit against Gallaudet before he was pinned by Ursinus' Mike Troutman. Avello then rebounded to pin McDaniel's Caleb Moore in 2:14.
The Generals' matmen will be in action again next Saturday when they compete in the Muhlenberg Triangular. Matches are slated to get underway at 12:00 pm.
