Call Leads Wasps Past Generals in Men's Basketball, 75-73

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Emory & Henry junior guard Justin Call (Ronda, N.C./East Wilkes) scored a career-high 46 points to lead the Wasps to a 75-73 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

Call scored 28 of his points in the first half, a stanza which saw the two teams combine to shoot 63.6 percent (35-55) and 80.9 percent (17-21) from three-point range. The Wasps held a 46-45 advantage at the break.

In the second half, W&L opened a six-point lead (52-46) with 16:26 remaining, but E&H clawed its way back to take a 54-52 lead with 13:08 remaining on a three-pointer by Call. The two teams traded the lead six more times until the Wasps took the lead for good at 69-67 with 2:14 left.

Call totaled his points on 18-of-25 shooting from the floor, including 7-of-8 from behind the three-point arc. He was the only Wasp (8-7, 4-5) in double figures.

Washington and Lee (5-8, 2-6) was led by sophomore guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), who tallied a season-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) totaled a career-high 14 points, while sophomore guard Ian McClure (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) notched 13 points.

W&L was hampered by 9-of-21 shooting from the foul line and a season-high 26 turnovers. E&H finished the game shooting 47.2 percent (25-53), while the Generals finished at 51.0 percent (26-51).

Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday as it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 3:00 pm contest.
