HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The fourth-ranked Hampden-Sydney men's basketball team used a game-opening 35-6 run to cruise to an 87-48 win over Washington and Lee on Sunday afternoon in Hampden-Sydney, Va.
The undefeated Tigers (14-0, 8-0 ODAC) had a 41-18 lead at the half after holding W&L (5-7, 2-5 ODAC) to 8-of-31 shooting (25.8 percent). For the game, the Tigers connected on 34-of-64 shots from the field (53.1 percent), compared to 22-of-66 shooting (33.3 percent) for the Generals, and held a 46-32 edge in rebounds.
Freshman forward Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) had a team-high nine points and also grabbed six boards for W&L. Junior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) and freshman forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) had seven points apiece.
H-SC's Matt McKeag was the game's high scorer with 17 points. Jeff Monroe added 16 points.
The Generals next play on Wednesday evening (7:00 pm) when they host Emory & Henry.
