W&L Volleyball Defeats Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team tied a record for the best start in program history (12-1) with a 30-15, 30-25, 30-13 win over Randolph-Macon and a 30-9, 30-26, 30-16 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in Ashland, Va.

The Generals (12-1, 4-0) opened the day with a win over the Yellow Jackets (7-7, 1-1) and were led by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who had 16 kills, nine digs and three aces. Freshman middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) totaled nine kills, while freshman libero Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) tallied 18 digs. Sophomore setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 32 assists.

In the win over Virginia Wesleyan (0-11), the Generals were paced again by Chastain's 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter Ashleigh Overly (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) notched eight kills, while Lux added 37 assists.

Washington and Lee will look for its best-ever start and its 11th win in a row as it travels to the Emory University Classic next weekend. The Generals will face Texas Lutheran in its opening contest on Friday at 2:00 pm.
